Labadie, Missouri: The Meramec River Valley in Franklin County

Labadie is a rural Franklin County community in the Meramec River valley between Washington and Gray Summit — an agricultural and residential community with the bottomland character, river-adjacent pest pressure, and older rural housing stock typical of the Meramec corridor.

Labadie occupies a particularly scenic section of the Meramec valley in Franklin County — the river bottomland on the south side of the corridor, with the wooded bluffs and agricultural land of the surrounding hills providing the wildlife habitat and moisture conditions that characterize rural Meramec communities. The Ameren UE Labadie coal plant nearby is a significant industrial presence in the area but the community itself remains primarily agricultural and rural residential.

Rural Franklin County communities along the Meramec face the full range of river-corridor pest pressures: subterranean termites sustained by the consistently moist soil conditions, carpenter ants from the mature hardwood woodland on the bluffs and creek drainages, and the seasonal mosquito surge that low-lying bottomland properties experience after every significant river rise. Tick pressure from deer in the woodland corridors is significant from April through October.
